Future Leaders Campaign: Empowering Education, Unlocking Potential
In South Africa and many neighboring countries, thousands of learners face a daily struggle not because they lack potential, but because they lack basic educational support. The Future Leaders Campaign, an initiative of Commoncents Foundation, is committed to changing that narrative by equipping underprivileged learners with the tools they need to succeed in school, reach higher education, and ultimately rise above poverty.
This campaign focuses on investing in the next generation of leaders—school learners who, with the right support, can grow into professionals, innovators, and change-makers in their communities
Why Educational Support Programs Matter
Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. However, millions of children across South Africa lack the basic resources they need to stay in school and perform at their best.
- According to Statistics South Africa (2022), more than 50% of learners drop out of school before completing Grade 12, with poverty being a key contributing factor.
- A 2023 UNICEF report found that 1 in 3 children in South Africa do not have access to basic learning materials like stationery or school uniforms.
- The World Bank (2021) highlights that youth unemployment in South Africa is among the highest globally, at over 60% for those aged 15–24. Education and skills training are key to reversing this trend.
- Girls face additional barriers: UNESCO estimates that 1 in 10 girls in sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their menstrual cycles due to a lack of access to sanitary pads, directly impacting attendance and academic performance.
- When children are supported early—with school supplies, a stable learning environment, and dignity—they stay in school longer, perform better, and have a higher chance of pursuing tertiary education and securing employment.
What Your Donation Supports
With your help, the Future Leaders Campaign will:
- Provide school uniforms and stationery to learners in need, removing a major barrier to participation in education.
- Distribute sanitary pads to female learners, promoting menstrual dignity, reducing absenteeism, and supporting gender equity in education.
- Partner with schools in Mpumalanga (South Africa) and Maseru (Lesotho) to identify learners most in need and ensure that support reaches the right hands.
- Create a pathway toward higher education by removing the practical challenges that often cause learners to drop out early.
